Choosing an Aromatherapy School or Class
When I decided to become an aromatherapist I didn't even know where to start. There are so many schools where you can find information about essential oils. Not all are created equal.
If you were to look around as I did, you will find classes from local community colleges, online classes and even classes provided by reps from MLM (multi-level marketing) essential oil companies. Unless the class is taught by a certified, trained aromatherapist, please be careful. There is so much to know when using essential oils properly, if used improperly, you can get quite hurt or hurt someone you love without meaning to.
Some of the best classes are ones provided by schools or aromatherapists belonging to NAHA, National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy, or AIA (Alliance of International Aromatherapists). An aromatherapist cannot belong to NAHA or AIA professionally without proving they have been certified and trained. Also, these schools go through much scrutiny before being accepted into and backed by the organization, you can count on learning the best practices in aromatherapy. If the school is also backed by both associations, even better. Approval but either if these organizations is not required but can be beneficial. Both organizations make sure the aromatherapy schools are teaching you safely. A list of schools can be found at:
Many of these schools offer free classes for you to try. By doing so you will be able to see if your learning style works with their teaching style. I have taken many aromatherapy classes with a few different schools and found I liked some schools better than others. I am fine with reading only and learning while you might need webinars or someone to show you exactly what they are talking about. It's ok, everyone is different, that's why it's nice to test drive a school with a free class before you sign up and pay money learn.
Remember "you don't know what you don't know" but we can fix that. Knowledge is power and you have the power to find a great school or class to learn from. Should you have any questions, please email me at email@example.com, I would love to help!
Have a wonderful day!
Love and light,
