Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) is a flower oil, that is steam distilled, with a middle-top note. Lavender has a fresh, light, floral, sweet and fruity scent that can be found in many products. Lavender was the first essential oils that I was ever introduced to. I loved it back then, and still love it today. I think this is THE MOST used essential oil in my house.
Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine on the website, "We think that TENS increases dermis renewal and contraction through PDGF-A, the most potent stimulator, in wound healing. We also concluded that it strengthens reepithelialization and permits a decrease in granulation tissue by also stimulating EGF and FGF-2 expressions. Lavender oil would seem to accelerate reepithelialization and wound closure by enhancing EGF secretion." In the study authors noted that wounds closed faster in the TENS and lavender oil groups than the control groups. Even though the TENS machine worked better, lavender essential oil can be beneficial in wound healing. I caution you to ONLY use properly diluted EO on closed cuts only.
According to Medical News Today, "The medicinal benefits of using lavender to treat anxiety, fungal infections, hair loss, and wounds have been demonstrated." "Lavender oil is believed to have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to heal minor burns and bug bites."
As you can see, it's great for reducing bacteria, and healing wounds but there are so many more benefits.
